Dear Ms. Dieken,
I have been absorbing the information in your work, 'Talk less say more.' It's a powerful tool. I want to say, "thank you" for this little bit of advice on dealing with narcissist personalities. This tid bit of information is quite valuable to me at this time. Especially when the narcissist is a family member whom I wish to remain on good relations with because he is married to my daughter.

I AM A RETIRED PSYC NURSE AND THINK PEOPLE ARE OVERLOOKING AN IMPORTANT ISSUE. HE DID SEEM REHEARSED AND NOT SINCERE. ONE OF HIS BIGEST PROBLEMS IS THAT HE IS A CONTROL FREAK WHO CAN DO WHAT HE WANT BECAUSE HE HAS THE MONEY,FAME ,AND CONSIDERED HIMSELF UNTOUCHABLE. THE FACT THAT HE LIMITED THE PRESS COVERAGE, WHO AMONG HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY THAT COULD ATTEND, AS WELL AS NOT TAKING ANY QUESTIONS SHOWS,I FEEL, HE IS NOT READY TO ACCEPT HIS ADDICTION (S) WHICH COULD INDICATE NO REMORSE AND APPARENTLY NO WILLINGNESS TO CHANGE.IT IS TOO EASY TO CLAIM YOU ARE CHANGING OR WANT TO CHANGE BUT YET HE KEPT A VERY TIGHT CONTROL OF THE MEETING. PLEASE DON'T ARGUE THAT HIS CONTROL WAS BECAUSE OF HIS NEED FOR PRIVACY OR PART OF HIS REHAB. THE FIRST PART OF ANY REHAB IS ACCEPTANCE,REAL ACCEPTANCE, NOT JUST SAYING WHAT YOU THINK PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR.IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN MORE BELIEVABLE IF HE HAD STARTED BY SAYING "HI, MY NAME IS TIGER AND I AM AN ADDICT" I CAN'T SEE THAT HE HAS HONESTLY TAKEN ONE STEP TOWARD RECOVERY MUCH LESS ANY OF THE TWELVE.MOST PEOPLE IN PRISON SWEAR THEY WILL NEVER COMIT A CRIME AGAIN IF THEY JUST GET PAROLED, HAS ANYONE CHECKED THE LATEST FIGURES ON RECIDIVISM ? I DON'T THINK HE IS READY FOR REHAB. REHAB IS NOT A REQUIREMENT FOR HIM TO PLAY GOLF AGAIN AND IF HE ISN'T READY HE SHOULD JUST GO PLAY,LORD KNOWS HE HAD NO GUILT OR REMORSE WHILE HE WAS CHEATING ON HIS WIFE SO WHY PROFESS IT NOW ?HIS INSINCEREITY WILL KEEP MORE SPONSERS AWAY FROM HIM THAN HIS ACTIONS. HE CERTAINLY CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE IN THE PGCA WHO EVER CHEATED ON HIS WIFE. MORALIUTY IS ONLY IMPORTANT TO THOSE WHO CARE.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, Brian. You're dead on. My comments were aimed at helping others with their presentation and media skills, not at how to communicate with investors who are purely bottom-line oriented. Thanks so much for the clarification!

Connie, I enjoyed this, but being a Wall Street person, we care first and foremost about the numbers. Numbers never lie, people lie. So you look at a deal based on the numbers and almost entirely on the numbers.

body language means almost nothing to investors, not the John Q Publich investor who is holding 100 shares, but real investors that also go by the name "fund managers" or portfolio managers who own hundreds of thousands or shares or millions as the case may be.

Your tips are good for smaller business, but Wall Street cares most about the numbers.

Connie, as I was writing an item for yesterday's newsletter on this very topic (I, too, pointed out the three characters you did), your ezine arrived.

News events like these are wonderful opportunities for people to seek publicity. I suggested in my newsletter that therapists, coaches, speakers, anger management experts and others can pass along commentary on these events, and share tips on what NOT to do if you find yourself in a situation like this.

I love your idea of elaborating on the art of the apology. Nicely done!
